Pack Like a Pro
Packing could be one of the most important aspects of your move. Poor packing can set your relocation up for failure, from the beginning. It is always important to have the right materials and pack using the correct techniques. Below includes a break down for packing common household items.
The first thing to know is the difference between your average Lowes or Home Depot box and an actual moving box. The difference is design using a thicker corrugated box that can withstand certain weights. Keeping that in mind, you CAN use recycled boxes from hardware stores and etc as long as you don’t pack them as to where they will fold on themselves. Your boxes need to be weight bearing.
When packing boxes think LASAGNA! I know it sounds silly, but you want to layer your box just like a lasagna. Packing paper is the best filler material. We have found, it will act like the pasta and cheese to your box lasagna. Start by laying a few sheets in the box - sometimes we use small pillows, sheets, clothes or towels even. Then, add some padding to start your box. Next, when placing items the heaviest should always go first or on the bottom. Make sure to wrap each individual item in packing paper, scrunch paper together, and stick in between each individual item, so to cause 1-2’’ packing material in between items. After filling the first layer, lay another few sheets of paper or towels, clothes, pillows, etc and repeat.
KITCHENS! Nobody wants to break their grandmothers china set, so if your forced to pack yourself make sure to get plenty of Dish Pack boxes. They are a more sturdy box designed for heavy kitchen material. Kitchen boxes tend to be the heaviest boxes, unless you have a home library, full of books. Use the lasagna method as above, but this time implement some bubble wrap. Make sure to use paper to wrap each item. Stuff paper in open areas such as inside glasses or bowls. Pack heavier appliances like mixers and pans in their own box WITHOUT any glass.
