7 Ways to Save Time and Money on a Local or Long-Distance Move
Moving can be a costly endeavor - depending on the distance, size of home and number of items, number of crew members needed, and specialty items - moving costs can add up. If you aren’t using us to pack your stuff, make sure to label each box. The label should include a brief description of the items in the box, what room it goes in, and where it was located (dresser, chest of drawers, above the stove, etc.).
After emptying appliances, unplug any that use water, at least 24 hours in advance of a move. This will ensure the item has time to drain properly and doesn’t make a mess during a move - examples include refrigerators and freezers.
Keep original packaging for electronics, kitchen gadgets, and other items. The original packaging ensures the item fits snuggly in the box for travel. Store in your attic with moth balls to prevent bugs from entering the box. When you go to move, utilize those boxes for the move.
If your family has a storage locker or stores personal property off-premises, bring the items from storage, or place the storage locker in the garage to decrease the time (and cost) to pickup the off-site items.
Move boxes to a front room or move items from upstairs to a downstairs area near the front of the home, moving those items can impact the amount of time and the crew needed for the move.
Move items from garage or storage shed to a central room at the front of the house. This reduces time by enabling the movers to focus on loading your personal property, instead of going to each room to retrieve those items.
Break down beds in each bedroom. Breaking down beds can make a move take more time, depending on how many bedrooms, types of beds, and locations.
