Halloween is just around the corner – are you ready for the spookiest day of the year? We’ve got all the information you need, from costumes to candy, to make this year a pumpkin smashing hit!

Decorations

Whether you are looking for easy classics, or to take on a cool family project. These decoration ideas are sure to have you inspired. We personally can’t get over the “cauldron creep” here from “Makezine”. But the leaf ghosts and apothecary squash could give them a run for their money.

Costumes

Still trying to figure out your Halloween costume? This neat platform by google will show you what people in your area are most likely to go as this year. Check out the map to see which costumes are most popular by state. Maybe the Northeast will inspire your look this year. If not, maybe this list of season favorites will spark your spooky spirit

Pumpkin Patch

One of our favorite spooky season traditions in getting out in the fall air to pick pumpkins with family and friends. These local pumpkin patches have excellent fall festivities including corn mazes, face painting, and photo ops. You can also find haunted houses, fall festivals, and other local adventures.

In other pumpkin news, this year’s giant pumpkin winner is Maverick! At 2,560 lb., this Minnesota gourd took home the giant pumpkin grand prize. It’d be amazing to see this jackolantern artist create a Maverick makeover – if not, I expect to see these pumpkins at Crystal Bridges next year!

Spooky Season Playlist

Once you’ve picked your pumpkins, it’s time for your annual pumpkin carving party.  This playlist is guaranteed to help get your spooky and creative juices flowing. Maybe instead of the standard smiling pumpkin you’ll go for that ghost pattern you’ve been eyeing up for years. Need other carving ideas? Check out these!

Tasty Treats

No spooky season party, whether it’s pumpkin carving or costume themed, is complete without Halloween treats. While fresh roasted pumpkin seeds are a classic, this year try one of these other treats to keep the celebration going. Or better yet, go all out with this spooky charcuterie board! These board will let you indulge in all your childhood favorites with elegance and class.

Local events

If pumpkin patches are just the tip of the iceberg for you when it comes to Halloween fun, than you are in luck. All across Northwest Arkansas celebrations, haunted houses, fall festivals, and foodie events will be happening through the end of the month. There are so many to choose from we may have to take a day off to fully appreciate all that is NWA Halloween! … (Just kidding!)

Scary movies

If you’re more of a Halloween homebody, then it is time to cuddle up on the couch and get cozy with some scary movies. If you suffer from option overload, this list can help you narrow down exactly what you’re in the mood for. Or, if you’d rather catch something new, check out these recent releases. The “Halloween” movies with Jamie Lee Curtis have been a hot topic this season, if you’re trying to catch up, you can find the recommended viewing order here.  We know scary movies aren’t for everyone. If you’re one of the people who spend scary movie night covering their eyes, maybe you’ll enjoy find out the science of why people enjoy being afraid. Maybe a bit of empathy will make your night more enjoyable?

Staying Safe

Halloween night is a time for costumes, candy, and fun! But a night out collecting candy from strangers and wandering the streets can naturally have parents a bit concerned. KNWA has advice on keeping your family and pets safe while enjoying a Halloween night for the books.  Our parents always just told us not to eat unwrapped candy, but we have to admit, there is some other good advice in here.

If after all this you’re still feeling uninspired, then may we present you with the best costume of all. Just be sure to write Phoenix Moving on the side! Happy Halloween from your friends at Phoenix Moving!
